Be Part of Positive Change
Become a part of positive change in our Community by joining Food Roots in its mission
to grow a vibrant regional food
system.
We provide meaningful service opportunities for adult and youth volunteers in food, garden and/or farm related
programs, while having fun and making Tillamook County a better
place.
Volunteer Opportunities
Tillamook Farmers’ Market Community Table: Food Roots needs youth and adult volunteers to staff the Community Table at the Tillamook Farmers’ Market every Saturday during the market season. Adults work either 8 – 11:30 or 11 – 2:30, youth work 8 – 2:30. The Community Table is an opportunity for community members and youth to sell produce from their backyard gardens and for selling produce from the TJHS hoop house. Volunteers will also be talking to market visitors about Food Roots and its work.
Local Food Challenge Cooking Contest at the Tillamook Farmers’
Market: Each year at the Tillamook Farmers’ Market, Food Roots co-sponsors a cooking contest using local foods. The volunteer will be in charge of recruiting local judges and volunteers to staff the tasting tables at the event.

Sacred Heart Garden Summer Garden Work Days: Food Roots
invites volunteer gardeners (or gardener wannabes) to join us on
Wednesdays, from June 22nd to the end of the season, from 10am –
12pm to help out at the Sacred Heart Garden. The garden is located
at the corner of Ocean and Fourth Streets in Tillamook.
Volunteering at the garden is a great way to learn or grow your
gardening skills, be active, make connections with other gardeners
and support your community. The produce from this garden benefits
those in need – it is distributed through local food pantries
and other programs that serve low income families.
Dirt and Grub – Garden Work Parties and
Potluck: On the Fourth Thursdays of June, July, and August, from 5-7pm, at the Sacred Heart Garden, Food Roots will be hosting an evening garden work party and potluck. Join community members for gardening and socializing while learning more about Food Roots Programs. The garden is located at the corner of Ocean and Fourth Streets in Tillamook. Please bring a dish to share. Food Roots will provide serving utensils.
Promote Farm and Food Heritage Cards: Someone with marketing skills is needed to market these cards to local businesses. Currently the Tillamook County Pioneer Museum is selling these cards and contacts have been made with other location.
North Coast Food Guide Website – Update www.northcoastfood.org website with current North Coast Food Guide. Develop system for updating website as revisions are made to the Food Guide.
Volunteer Management: We’re looking for one or two people who feel comfortable being the responsible party at the Sacred Heart Food Bank Garden or the Hoop House when there are volunteers working. Folks with knowledge about gardening who enjoy sharing that knowledge are who we are looking for! Background check may be required.
Construction: Food Roots has numerous small construction jobs to keep a construction volunteer busy. The construction volunteer can work independently and/or plan volunteer work days and work with the Volunteer Coordinator to host volunteer groups.
Organize Warehouse: Food Roots’ storage space in the Food Bank building is in desperate need of clean out and organization. 2 to 4 volunteers needed for a couple days to install shelves, sort items and organize into usable storage.
Events Coordinator: Food Roots host’s events throughout the year, such as Pie Day Feast, Harvest Dinner, Pumpkin Patch youth activities and fundraising activities. The Events Coordinator will assist the Director in planning these activities and the Volunteer Coordinator in recruiting the volunteers needed to make these events happen.
Office Help: We can always use help with a variety of office activities. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and good organizational skills are helpful.
Committees: Food Roots is currently developing committees to assist the board in development of Food Roots programs. Current committees include: fund development and land/facilities committees; an enterprise committee is under development. Volunteers will attend monthly meetings and assist in fulfilling the needs of that particular committee.
School Garden Programs: Food Roots works with students from 4th to 12th grade in a variety of school and community garden settings, as well as in the classroom. Food Roots is looking for volunteers to help with these programs once the school year resumes. Food Roots will provide volunteers with support, training and curriculum plans.
